Year 1 Class
End of Year Expectations - Year 1
How We Teach Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division
Phonics
A key area of learning in our class is 'Phonics'.
We have short, sharp phonics lessons everyday (15-20 mins).
Click on the link below to see how you can help your child with phonics.
Learning to Read Through Phonics
We use the Phonics Scheme Letter and Sounds to plan the teaching of phonics throughout the year. We also make use of material from Jolly Phonics.
Reading Scheme
For the teaching of reading we use the Oxford Tree Reading Scheme, a developmental programme meeting the needs of the early reader. When pupils graduate from ORT they move onto the Accelerated Reader programme, which allows them to choose books within their reading age that they can enjoy but will develop both their reading and comprehension skills.
